The USA Men’s Eagles will reconvene after a short three-week break this Monday, as they prepare for their only match on North American soil this year, taking on French Champions Stade Toulousain in Sandy, UT at Americas First Field.
A few new names will join their first Eagle’s assembly while Head Coach Scott Lawrence parlays a largely similar group from the August Tour in Europe. Another opportunity for high level international rugby, the dynamic of facing off with a fast a cohesive club will provide another level of education for this developing Men’s Eagles side. USA vs Stade Toulousain kicks off Saturday, September at 7PM MT at Americas First Field in Utah. Saturday's match will be live on FS2 for US viewers, with a delayed broadcast on FS1 Sunday at 6PM ET. All international viewers outside the US can watch live on The Rugby Network.
Head Coach Scott Lawrence said on the match at home, “Everyone’s pretty excited to play at home. We were on the road for five weeks, so it feels good to learn all the lessons that we learned abroad and bring that home to play in front of the people we love and support us.”
Speaking to the upcoming game against the club side, Lawrence added, “I think we can take away an ability to play a high skill team, how we fare in a faster pace game, so pretty exciting for that.”
Six current Utah Warriors will have the opportunity to pull on the USA shirt on their home soil, with Logan Tago and Joe Mano joining the XVs player pool for the first time. Tago and Devin Short come with some USA Sevens experience, both having spent time with residency in Chula Vista. Erich Storti also gets a national team call, joining his collegiate teammate Dominic Besag from Saint Mary’s College. Notably, veterans Bryce Campbell and CC Mahoni also return to team assembly for the first time this year.
Lawrence concluded on the selected roster, “This is an opportunity for us to bring in a number of players we wanted to look at this summer, but were unavailable. So we’ve got some fresh faces in this squad and an opportunity for them to compete for spots on the team going forward.”
