MILL BAY, B.C. - Rugby Canada has today confirmed the cancellation of the Boys U18 CanAm Summer Series due to the global COVID-19 outbreak. The event was originally set for July 1-15, 2020 featuring players from USA and Canada’s Under-18 Junior National Teams.
USA Rugby and Rugby Canada will continue to monitor evolving public health mandates and make arrangements for an international competition when feasible.
Brendan Keane, Director & Head Coach of the USA Boys U18s, said:
“Of course we are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to compete with our friends and rivals in the Canadian U18 team this summer. It is a highlight of the year for all involved and I know the players and staff were looking forward to the challenge and to experiencing the beauty of Vancouver Island.
“As we discuss frequently, however, we will seek to control what we can control by adapting to what we cannot, setting new targets and working to hit them. We look forward to the next chance to work with Rugby Canada as we cooperate to drive North American rugby forward.”
Mike Curran, Head Coach of Canada’s U18s said:
“We are very disappointed for the young athletes who were selected to play in this series against USA this July. Each player worked extremely hard to get to this level and we are excited to continue their development as elite rugby players. We thank USA Ruby for their partnership in preparing for this series, and we look forward to hosting matches at Brentwood College School in the future.”
