USA Women’s Under 23s Sevens program showed brilliant potential at the recent Women's Under 23s Sevens Camp, which was held last week at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
This camp marked the first Sevens Pathways gathering for this age group in 2025, following the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.
The invited athletes were identified through the the 2025 Women's Pathway Talent Identification effort, which included Regional Talent ID camps, standout performances at Collegiate XV and Sevens Championships, and the U23 All Star Event that took place last month in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Head Coach Irene Gardner commented, "These athletes demonstrated a strong performance on the pitch or in their physical testing, and this camp presented an opportunity for them to train and compete in a replicated full-time environment for the week.
During camp, we assessed core skills on attack and defense, tested physical performance metrics, and competed in scrimmages at the end of the week. From this, we can now identify athletes that have senior national team potential and will continue on a journey in the Women's Pathway, while also giving them the resources to support their own development away from this environment."
The camp ran concurrently with the Pathway Women’s XV U23 camp, bringing together a collective of nearly 60 aspiring rugby athletes eager to learn and develop in their respective journeys.
