Kicking off 2025 with a win over Belgium, the USA Men's Eagles are refocused on week two in Charlotte with a fixture against Spain on Saturday night.
Working through a humid week in Carolina, the Men's Eagles remained in Charlotte for week two of the July test series with targets on a third straight win over Spain in as many years. This is the first time Spain have faces the Eagles in the US, following fixtures from Madrid and Villajoyosa the past two years. USA vs Spain kicks off at 7:30pm ET from American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC with live coverage on Paramount+ and tickets still available at usa.rugby/tickets.
Head Coach Scott Lawrence's squad continues to focus on alignment and excelling the test match fundamentals for the second match of the 2025 calendar. Lawrence and the USA coaching staff have selected the match day 23 with movement from last week's roster and new players named to the roster. Lock Sam Golla will sit out the contest after a shoulder injury in the opener against Belgium, moving Viliami Hellu to the #4 position. Jamason Fa'anana-Schultz gets his first selection of the year alongside recent MLR Champion Kaleb Geiger, and Lauina Futi. On the debut front, Tom Pittman, Christian Poidevin and Ezekiel Lindenmuth earn their first roster spots with an eye on making their USA Eagles debut.
Lawrence said looking back on the previous week and work-ons for Spain, "Last week was reflective of where we are as a team going into the first test match, our collective instincts are something to focus on when we first come together. Overall we're happy with our set piece performance, and having under 10 penalties for the first test match is reasonable discipline, so if we can continue to win the set piece and discipline we'll have a good outcome. We place a big emphasis on competition within the squad, we think these guys competed well this week in training."
