Head Coach Mike Friday announced today the traveling roster for Singapore SVNS, the final stop on the 2024 SVNS to earn qualification to the season finale in Madrid. Currently eighth in the standings, the Eagles will look to solidify their placement in the top eight.
The Singapore roster features veteran USA players, as Perry Baker is set to run out for his 70th career SVNS tournament. He will become only the second USA player to play their 70th tournament, behind Folau Niua, who appeared in 76 tournaments.
Singapore SVNS kicks off Thursday night, May 2, live on RugbyPass. Semifinals and finals will be simulcast on Peacock.
“We are looking forward to getting back out there and competing in the SVNS. It is a relentless travel schedule but as a squad we are highly motivated by the challenge and opportunity. We realize once again it's a very tough group and we will prepare for each one of those games and will need to be physically up for a reinvigorated Fiji and a highly competitive and consistent Ireland. Team GB is always a big challenge every time we play them and we fully expect that once again. We understand the mission ahead of us and are excited to get out there compete and represent. The squad is healthy and is moving well, both sides of the ball, these last few weeks of preparation.”
The Dawgs begin their weekend in Singapore against Fiji. It will be the first time the two teams meet on the pitch since a Fiji win in Dubai. Both teams will be eager to show off their improvements from the season and take the first victory of the weekend.
The USA will meet Ireland in their second pool match. Coming off a defeat in extra time to Ireland in the Hong Kong quarterfinal, the Dawgs will have more determination to reverse the result and aim for the Singapore knockout stages.
Finally, the USA will match up with Great Britain to round out pool play. Their last matchup was a USA win in Hong Kong, and the USA will aim to keep up the win streak as they vie toward quarterfinal qualification.
