CHULA VISTA, CA. - 51 U18 Boys High School All-Americans have been named for the North American Four (NA4), taking place December 28 and 31 as part of Winter Camp 2019.
The full assembly will run from December 26 to January 1 at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, where the All-Americans will split into two groups to play under-18 teams from Canada. Kick off times and streaming information will be confirmed closer to date.
Director Brendan Keane has named just four returners from the North American Summer Series in July, introducing a wide range of newly identified U18 athletes to the age-grade pipeline.
As a whole, the purpose of Winter Camp and the North American Four (NA4) is to serve as the initial touchpoint for under-18 athletes to the high performance program. Player development at the U18 level is vital to understanding the demands of international competition and learning how to adapt and respond to the level of play.
“We are excited to return to the EATC in Chula Vista for a second NA4 competition with Canada. With just four players returning to the squad from the Summer Series, we are excited to work with this new young crop of talented players,” said Director Brendan Keane.
“Our aim in this assembly is to expose this group to our systems and structures — as well as the high performance training and playing environment — and to see what our opportunities for growth are as we build our U18 touring squad for next summer.
“We are equally interested in identifying the next generation of U20s and Eagles, so while the framework of the assembly is a competition, the main purpose is identification, development and creating a path for long term improvement.
“It’s great to have willing partners in Canada and we are really looking forward to the next installment of our cross-border series.”
Players within USA Rugby’s age-grade programs rely heavily on monetary support from the community to reduce or fully cover the costs of assembly.
