We caught up with Hawks Head Coach, Brendan Keane following the South American tour, checking in on progress the team has made in a full time environment and in international territory.

Some tough results, but experience is the goal here. What are your overall takeaways from the first few matches?

“The biggest takeaway is that we need more of this kind of competition to get better. Our fitness levels, skill execution and speed of play all have to come up. So does our game management. Again, experience is the goal here and these players will be better for it and there were some definite improvements game to game, along with the work ons.”

How beneficial were the extended rosters? How did you strategize game time, player positions and substitutes knowing most everyone would have opportunity to play?

“It was great to be able to get all the players game time in South America. It is a tough place to play, and they will all be better for it. Players at different places in their development, so while some players got more game time than others, the match and training reviews should give everyone a chance to see where they are and where they need to go.”
