Kelter was a dual-sport athlete at the University of Wisconsin where she played hockey and soccer. She won gold as captain of the U.S. U18 women's hockey team at the 2009 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship and was named Daily News Girls Athlete of the Year in 2008.

Several years later, Kelter transitioned to rugby and was invited to High Performance Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Site in Chula Vista. From there, she earned a selection to the 2014 Guangzhou Sevens where she made her HSBC Sevens Series debut.

A high points scorer who has lead the Eagles in points on multiple occasions, Kelter won a silver-medal with the Women's Sevens at the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games. In 2016 she was selected to Team USA's 12 player roster for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and again later for the Tokyo 2020 games.

In 2016, she transitioned to 15s where she earned her first cap with the Women's National Team against France. In 2017, she joined the Women's Eagles for the Rugby World Cup in Ireland where she helped the team to a fourth place finish.
