Niua began his rugby career with the East Palo Alto Razorbacks where he won a Division II National Championship. He also won a Rugby Super League title with San Francisco Golden Gate before making his international debut with the Men’s Sevens at the 2011 Pan American Games. At the PanAm Games, he lead the team in scoring with 41 points on the way to their bronze medal. Niua also debuted with the Men's Eagles (15s) in 2013 and earned a selection to Rugby World Cup 2015 England.

After a short stint with the Glasgow Warriors of the Guinnes Pro12, Niua led the U.S. in Series appearances during the 2015-16 HSBC season and was selected for Team USA’s roster for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In 2018, Niua helped the Eagles win their first ever cup title on home soil at the USA Sevens tournament.
