Johnson first jumped on the USA Rugby scene with the Women's Junior and Collegiate All-Americans during the England tour in 2006, before making her Women's Sevens Series debut with the Women's Eagles Sevens at the beginning of the 2013 season, just months after winning the bronze medal at Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 in Moscow.
Johnson also won a silver medal with the United States at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, and was later selected to Team USA's 12-player Rugby Sevens squad for the Rio 2016 Olympic Summer Games. After reaching the Olympic level with sevens, Johnson shifted to fifteens and made her Women's Eagles debut against Canada during the 2019 CanAm Series in November of 2019.
Outside of rugby, Johnson is a firefighter in the Minneapolis area and makes her own jewelry.
