Marcus Tupuola joins the squad this weekend as the USA Men’s Sevens gear up for the fourth round of the 2021-22 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. With Tupuola in at 13, Aaron Cummings will serve as an injury reserve.

The USA Men finished sixth last weekend in Malaga as the combination of new talent and senior players continue to find their stride through the unforgiving nature of the World Series. Competition continues to heat up this weekend with the U.S. facing South Africa and hosts Spain in Pool A. Due to COVID travel complications, the match with Samoa will be ruled as a draw giving the USA a bye in between games.

Currently ranked fourth with five-points difference from No. 3 Australia, the Eagles Sevens have another five tournaments to improve their position before Rugby World Cup 2022 in South Africa.

All matches are broadcast LIVE on NBC’s Peacock.

Regarding competition this weekend, Head Coach Mike Friday said:

“As a group, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to represent once again and to continue learning and evolving. There are certainly aspects from last weekend we are keen to put right in Seville, especially from that Australia match, as well as other parts of our game we want to continue to excel at.

“We have another tough opener against Spain, who will want to excel on home soil and are proving to be a force for anyone. We then have the ruthless machine of South Africa to contend with which is a challenge we are all very much looking on forward to.

“It is knock out rugby from the first second of Game One for us. We are under no illusion that we will need to be ready.”
