Interim Head Coach Milton Haig announced today the USA Women’s Eagles match day 23 against Scotland in their second match of the inaugural WXV 2 tournament. USA v Scotland kicks off Friday, Oct. 20, at 8 a.m. ET, live on RugbyPass TV.
Following an exciting win against Samoa, the Eagles look toward Friday with noticeable improvements in their offense. Scoring 36 points in the first test, the USA offense will look to continue the momentum and sure up defensive structures against a Scottish team also coming off a 30+ point performance. Scotland currently sits at the top of the WXV 2 standings by point differential thanks to a 31-17 win over host South Africa. However the USA and Italy are level at five points with bonus point wins following round one. The USA and Scotland have met on the field six times in program history, most recently the Eagles winning a 21-17 contest last summer in Edinburgh.
Interim Head Coach Haig’s roster of 23 holds fairly consistent from last week's selections against Samoa, with Captain Kate Zackary leading the charge. Meya Bizer has been ruled out the rest of the tournament due to an injury sustained in the first round. Katana Howard was called up to join the team this week, and will take the #22 spot. Autumn Czaplicki also joins the roster with the finishers.
Interim Head Coach Milton Haig on selecting the roster for the Scotland game:
"We picked generally the same starting team as last week, and that's just because we were pretty happy with how the team went last week. We were also impressed by the people coming off the bench, so we wanted to try and repeat that this week. When you win a game, it's very hard to try and change combinations unless there are injuries. The responsibility will be on the starting team to make sure they can get us a good start, and as the game goes on in the second half we'll go to make some changes. This team has some good experience and there's some youthfulness with some of the players that are starting, so we're excited about that. Scotland are not going to be easy. They are quite a structured side, we just need to break them down, be patient, and use our skill sets."
