The USA Women’s 7s National Team finished second in the Vancouver Fast Four, held in conjunction with the men’s HSBC Canada Sevens. Following a 2-1 run yesterday, where five players made their first appearance with the senior national team, the Eagles Sevens went toe-and-toe with hosts Canada in the semifinal, ultimately falling to an experienced Great Britain side 34-12 in the Championship.

The USA Women will travel to Edmonton tomorrow for the final round of Fast Four to take place alongside the second men’s HSBC Canada Sevens. Competition runs September 25-26 with the same teams, broadcast LIVE on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock TV. Schedule will be published on world.rugby/sevens-series in the coming days.

USA Sevens’ Stephanie Rovetti said:

“Between two days we had a lot of growth, we have a lot of young kids in this and got a lot of veterans and we haven’t been together that long. The connection and the growth is there and I think we’re at the stage right now where we’re just building and building. Honestly, from Game One to Game Five there was tremendous growth, so we’re really happy with that.”

USA vs Canada | 22-12 (W)

Nia Toliver scored from the kickoff in a beautiful display of athleticism that captured early momentum but Canada returned the favor with two tries from smooth offloads and powerful carries. The United States showed immense physicality through both Canadian scores which forced the opposition to frantically fight for every inch. After a few second-half penalties in the midst of intense play, the U.S. kept its work rate high and ultimately drove Jaz Gray, Nana Fa’avesi and Stephanie Rovetti over the line for a stunning win.

TRIES | Nia Toliver, Jaz Gray, Nana Fa’avesi, Stephanie Rovetti
CONS | Kayla Canett

USA vs Great Britain | 34-12 (W)

Great Britain presented a tough outfit for the United States, despite the young USA side showing incredible fight and intensity through 14-minutes of play. Summer Jones and Jaz Gray scored two hard-fought tries as the USA struggled to match Great Britain’s rhythm in attack. The Eagles Sevens’ effort and intensity spoke volumes but, unfortunately, it couldn't catch the speed of play or precision of the opposing side.

TRIES | Summer Jones, Jaz Gray
