Tess Feury has been called up to join the USA Women’s Eagles squad in York ahead of the last Pool match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.
Having featured in the squad through their PAC4 tour and camp earlier this summer, Feury, the veteran Eagle is stepping up to relieve Bulou Mataitoga, who has pulled up with an injury sustained at training this past week.
Mataitoga, a key feature of the Eagles' backline, has been ruled out of action for a minimum 4 week recovery period, but will stay in camp to continue to support the squad through her positive energy and workrate off the pitch.
Tess Feury brings a wealth of international experience to the squad with the call up marking her third RWC campaign for the USA Eagles. The New York Exiles and Leicester Tigers Captain had been a consistent presence in the Eagles setup since her debut in 2016. Named to the extended squad this summer, Feury is well versed in the squads systems and style of play, making her the ideal candidate to seamlessly step into the Eagles backline.
Feury’s experience and skill set will be a valuable asset in preparation for the team’s final pool match later this week. Head Coach, Sione Fukofuka commented; “Tess has been a big part of the Eagles team over the years and has been working hard behind the scenes in case she was required. We are appreciative of Leicester's support in allowing her to transition into camp so quickly. Tess is an experienced player who is also a leader on and off the field, so we are excited to have her join us for the Samoa week and looking forward to her integrating back into the squad.
“Unfortunately with the injury timeline, Bulou will not be available for selection moving forward, however her performances to date have been excellent and she will be missed on the field. Her value to the team though is more than just her onfield performances and it is great that we can keep her with us for the remainder of the World Cup, supporting the team off the field.”
Feury will join the squad immediately and be available for selection for the USA’s must- win match against Samoa this coming Saturday. After drawing to Australia, the USA Eagles are in tight contention to progress out of the pool phases and will need to compete for maximum points against the Samoan squad to secure their quarter final position. Feury’s experience and skill set will be a valuable asset in preparation for this critical contest for the Eagles.
