With the conclusion of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup, the USA Men’s Eagles are confirmed for three additional test matches this fall, traveling to Europe in November to face off against Portugal, Tonga and Spain. This will close out the year with nine total international fixtures for the Men’s National Team in 2024.
Head Coach and General Manager Scott Lawrence said on the tour, “The November tour is an opportunity for us to test ourselves against a formidable team in Tonga, with their full contingent, as well as Spain and Portugal. Two nations with plenty of time together and a player base getting consistent professional playing minutes. As we look to improve the minutes played of our players, by way of the national team, we’ll have a chance to do it against three teams who are already there.”
DATE | OPPONENT | LOCATION |
---|---|---|
9-Nov | USA vs Portugal | Lisbon, POR |
16-Nov | USA vs Tonga | Chambéry, FRA |
23-Nov | USA vs Spain | Madrid, ESP |
This will be the third consecutive year the Men’s Eagles will see Portugal, and second year facing Spain. Both teams present fast-paced play, ranked just above the USA on the World Rugby table. The Eagles split those results in 2023, falling to a 46-point offensive outburst from Portugal, but returning the firepower against Spain in a 42-12 victory to win the Villa International Cup. Both teams have seen significant time together with a string of test matches in 2024, so the United States will look to carry their physical defensive effort from the Pacific Nations Cup into the series. Tonga will also travel to France for a test series, meeting the USA in Chambéry. Tonga is the only team the Eagles didn’t face in September for the Pacific Nations Cup.
