USA Men’s Eagles Sevens travel to South American to take on the final 2 stops of the HSBC SVNS2 series in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Following their 2nd place finish last month at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium at the opening stop of the series, Head Coach Zack Test and staff shifts the roster slightly including 2 debutants set to run out for the Eagles.
Ryan Santos returns to the set up, while Tucker Trickey and Aaron Faison will both kit out in the USA Jersey for their first sevens appearances. Trickey and Faison have been part of the Eagles on-site training set up in Chula Vista. California native, Trickey featured in the Eagles squad at their recent Coral Coast warm-up in Fiji while Faison joins the set up having recently played for Life University.
Looking forward to building from the first stop and getting back into action, Head Coach Zack Test commented;
“Kenya gave us great clarity and showed us that we must have consistency in everything we do. At this time of the season, it’s rarely about big changes, but more about executing the small details over and over under pressure.”
“Having seen the teams once (in Kenya) certainly gives us more information, but our preparation hasn’t shifted away from our core focus, which is ourselves and the details of how we want to play. Understanding opposition tendencies is helpful because it gives context to certain moments in games, but ultimately our priority is making sure we execute our systems and play the way we want to play.”
“Since returning, we’ve spent time refining areas and building a deeper understanding of what true discipline, work ethic, and consistency look like in every moment of a match. For us, the focus is making sure our standards travel, regardless of opponent, environment, or scoreboard. When we do the small things well and stay connected to our process, our game tends to take care of itself.”
The Eagles went 4 for 5 in Kenya defeating the home team with a clinical defensive performance in their final match and securing the silver position through a favorable points differential, dropping only to Germany who went on to win the opening tournament. Remaining in the top four these next two weeks will secure a spot for the USA in the SVNS World Championship, beginning in Hong Kong on April 17.
Action in Montevideo can be caught live on Paramount+ for USA audiences.
